JaySense Research Methodology

This page explains what JaySense evaluates, how research scores are interpreted, how the engine is validated, and what it cannot tell you. Proprietary implementation details — weights, thresholds, feature engineering, algorithms — are not published.

01

What is the JaySense Research Score?

The JaySense Research Score is a quantitative research metric designed to help users evaluate multiple characteristics of an Indian listed security within a consistent, repeatable framework.

The score is computed daily — after market close — for each stock in the research universe. It reflects conditions as of that day's available data and is not a prediction of future price movements.

Regulatory notice: JaySense is not a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser, Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager, or Stock Broker. The Research Score and all related outputs are general research information for educational purposes only. They do not constitute a buy/sell recommendation, personalised investment advice, or a research report under SEBI (Research Analysts) Regulations, 2014. Investment in securities market is subject to market risks. Read all related documents carefully before investing.
02

Factors evaluated

The engine evaluates a stock across multiple dimensions. The table below describes what is evaluated — not the specific indicators, weights, or thresholds used. Individual factor contributions vary depending on data availability and market conditions.

Factor What JaySense evaluates
📈 Price Momentum Recent price trend behaviour, including directional movement and slope over multiple timeframes
📊 Technical Strength Readings from selected technical indicators capturing trend, oscillation, and trend-strength characteristics
📦 Volume Activity Trading volume behaviour relative to historical averages, including delivery volume where publicly available
💰 Fundamental Quality Publicly available financial and valuation characteristics, including profitability ratios, leverage, and earnings trends
📉 Risk Profile Volatility measures and drawdown characteristics derived from price history
🏭 Sector Context Relative strength of the stock's sector compared to the broader market on the same day
🏛 Market Regime Prevailing broad-market conditions used to contextualise individual stock scores; a bull-market signal is evaluated differently in a stressed market than in a benign one
📰 Corporate Events Proximity to scheduled earnings announcements and confirmed earnings beats, where data is available

The relative contribution of individual factors is determined by the research engine and is not published. JaySense periodically evaluates and adjusts factor construction using historical data. Factors with insufficient or stale data may receive a neutral weighting for that stock on that day.

03

How to interpret the score

Scores are grouped into five research bands to assist interpretation:

High Conviction Research Candidate
Multiple evaluated factors align strongly. Suitable for detailed further research. This label is not a recommendation to buy or invest.
Attractive Valuation
Generally favourable multi-factor reading with some areas of uncertainty. Warrants research attention. Not a buy recommendation.
Watch Closely
Mixed signals across evaluated dimensions. Not clearly favourable or unfavourable. Suitable for monitoring only.
Weak Momentum
Below-average readings across most evaluated dimensions at the time of computation.
Overvalued · High Risk
Multiple factors unfavourable. Not recommended for current research focus. This label is not a recommendation to sell or exit any position.

Scores are computed from end-of-day data. An intraday staleness indicator is shown when price has moved materially from the prior close, to signal that the score may not reflect current conditions.

04

Historical validation

JaySense conducts periodic historical validation of its research scores. The validation process samples historical (stock, date) pairs, applies the research engine to conditions as of that date, and measures the forward price outcome over multiple holding periods (7, 15, and 20 trading days).

The key question asked is: do higher-scored stocks tend to have better average forward outcomes than lower-scored stocks, across the full sample? If so, the engine shows statistical edge. If not, the methodology is reviewed.

Weekly
Automated validation run cadence
3
Holding periods tested (7d / 15d / 20d)
5
Score bands compared in monotonicity test
Validation results are available to registered JaySense users via the Score Validation page. The verdict (engine shows edge / weak edge / no measurable edge) is displayed along with the average forward return by score band and sample size.

Validation is not a guarantee. Historical patterns may not persist. A validation result showing positive historical edge does not imply future performance will replicate that edge.

05

Data sources

JaySense uses the following categories of public data:

JaySense does not use non-public information, insider data, or proprietary data feeds not available to the general public.

06

Data refresh & availability

Research scores and underlying data are refreshed on the following approximate schedule on trading days:

Post-market close
EOD price and volume data collected (~3:45–4:30 PM IST on trading days)
Post-market close
Technical indicators and Research Scores recalculated from updated price data (~4:00–4:30 PM IST)
9:15 AM IST
Morning Plan generated and locked for the trading day — reflects pre-open conditions as of 9:15 AM
Weekly (weekend)
Fundamental data, shareholding patterns, and quarterly financials refreshed

Data availability varies by stock. Scores for stocks with limited data history or stale fundamental data carry a data quality indicator. Scores computed from fewer than 30 days of price history may not be representative.
