How FII / DII Data Works

Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) and Domestic Institutional Investor (DII) data shows how large, professional investors are positioned across the Indian equity market. JaySense uses this data as one of its 9 research dimensions.

What are FIIs and DIIs?

FII — Foreign Institutional Investors

Large overseas entities — foreign funds, insurance companies, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds — registered to invest in Indian securities. FII activity is a significant driver of market direction because of the scale of capital involved. Net FII buying (more purchases than sales) is typically bullish for the overall market.

DII — Domestic Institutional Investors

Indian institutional entities — mutual funds (especially SIP-driven inflows), insurance companies, banks, and provident funds. DIIs often counter FII selling, as domestic SIP inflows are relatively steady. Net DII buying while FIIs sell can stabilise the market and sometimes precede a recovery.

Where does JaySense get this data?

JaySense ingests FII and DII provisional data published daily by BSE and NSE after market close. This data shows net equity market purchases or sales in INR crores for that trading day. The data is publicly available and does not require any authentication to access.

Note: The daily provisional figures may occasionally be revised by exchanges. JaySense uses the provisional data at the time of ingestion.

How it feeds into the JayScore

The Institutional dimension (one of 9) is calculated from the trailing 30-day net FII and DII flow — not just a single day. This smooths out noise from day-to-day reversals and captures the structural direction of institutional positioning.

The Institutional dimension is a confirming signal — it amplifies a Positive stock signal when institutional flow agrees, or adds a cautionary note when flow is negative while other dimensions look constructive.
