Reading the Research of the Hour
Research of the Hour is a Pro feature that shows which Nifty 50 stocks have historically been
most active during the current trading hour — and how they are behaving right now compared to
that historical pattern.
What is the data source?
JaySense ingests 60-minute intraday price bars for all Nifty 50 stocks after the market closes
each day (4:30 PM IST sync). Over 30 days, this builds a picture of which stocks tend to make
their largest moves during specific trading hours — the historical hourly pattern.
During market hours, JaySense fetches live intraday data to show you whether the current hour's
move is on track with, below, or exceeding the historical average.
What each column means
Symbol
NSE ticker. A ⚡ bolt icon indicates the stock is historically active this hour AND is currently moving up — a "hot" confluence.
Score
The stock's current JayScore — green (70+) for high conviction, amber (55–69) for moderate, red for weak. A high-scoring stock with a positive hourly pattern is worth reviewing further.
CMP
Current Market Price and today's day-change percentage (relative to yesterday's closing price). Sourced from Upstox live data or Yahoo Finance as a fallback.
Now %
The current hour's price change (open of this hour to now). Shows how the stock is moving within the current 60-minute bar. An upward ↑ arrow appears when the move exceeds 1.5× the historical average — above-average activity.
Hist. Avg
The historical average percentage move during this specific hour, computed across the last 30 trading days. Green = historically positive this hour; red = historically negative.
Avg Vol
Average volume transacted during this hour over the last 30 days, in thousands (K). Higher volume hours have more reliable patterns.
Research Focus this hour
The gold banner at the top of the table shows the single stock with the highest JayScore among
those with a positive historical average this hour. It is not a recommendation — it is the most
research-relevant stock at this hour based on the available data.
When does the data update?
- Historical averages are updated once daily after 4:30 PM IST when the intraday bar sync job runs.
- Live data (CMP and Now %) refreshes when you load or reload the feed page, cached for up to 5 minutes.
- Outside market hours (before 9:15 AM and after 3:30 PM IST), live data is unavailable — only historical patterns are shown.
Limitations
- 30 days of hourly data is a limited sample — patterns can be noise, especially for less-volatile stocks.
- Historical patterns do not guarantee the same behaviour today — news events, results, or macro shocks override historical tendencies.
- This feature covers only Nifty 50 stocks — the 50 most liquid large-cap NSE stocks.
- Research of the Hour is one signal among many — not a standalone research basis.
